Alchemy// Kilonova Explosion of Two Stars

Astronomers saw two stars collide in a distant galaxy. This type of collision, called a kilonova, produces precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. Looking at jewelry made with these metals with a new awe and appreciation. 

Gravitational waves (seen in this shot from a New York Times video) emanating off these extreme forces can alter time and space, further proving Einstein's theory from 100 years ago.
